GRAFTON, W.Va. (WV News) — Eugene “Gene” Arthur Cool, 72, of Morgantown, formerly of Grafton, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at Sundale Nursing Home, Morgantown, with his loving family by his side.
He was born in Grafton, January 27, 1952. He was raised by his loving foster parents, Fray and Avice McCray.
Gene attended Grafton High School, Class of 71. He became a CNA right after high school and began his career at Grafton City Hospital. He retired from Mon General Hospital with over thirty-seven years in the surgical unit.
Gene was a very loving and caring person who was always looking out for the well-being of others. He enjoyed going to gospel sings, church and going to revivals. Gene loved to be with people and share stories with all those he met. He had a heart of gold and a smile that was contagious. Gene will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Gene is survived by one brother, Lawrence “Bink” Cool; adopted brothers, Arlen “Dude” Rowan (Cindy), Michael Rowan (Kathy) Tom McCray (Cheryl); granddaughter, Kristian Rowan; nieces, Donna Rice, Vickey Baker, Danyell Martin; nephews, Jimmy Baker, Tommy Baker, Richard Baker, Danny Kidd, Bo Kidd, and Rusty Kidd.
Gene was preceded in death by his companion, Delores Rowan, one sister, Connie Baker.
To honor Gene’s wishes, there will be a graveside service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at the Walnut Grove Cemetery, Webster, WV, with Pastor Dolly Sparks officiating. The family is requesting to meet at Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave., Grafton, at 10 a.m. to follow in procession to the graveside.
