WEST UNION, W.Va (WV News) — Doddridge County swept the Cline Stansberry Invitational last Friday, securing high-point scorers in Destiny Berryman and Saige Landis.
The boys’ and girls’ teams each finished first in a field of 17 schools.
Doddridge County’s Payton Currey and Jaycee Lipscomb essentially tied for first in the 100. Each finished in 13.33, with Currey being credited with first.
South Harrison’s Jaden Hatfield won the 200 inn22.78.
Payton Trent and Landis helped the Bulldogs sweep the 400. Trent finished in 1:02.03 while Landis clocked 50.88.
Destiny Berryman won her first event in the 800 in 2:24.99. She followed with a win in the 1600 in 5:32.00 and a 3200 win in 11:53.19. It helped pace her to her high-point finish.
Doddridge County’s girls’ 4x100 relay took first with a time of 53.43. Hannah Rymer, Kim Adams, Payton Trent and Currey paced the event. The same group won the 4x200 in 1:56.19.
Doddridge won the girls’ 4x400 relay in 4:31.79. The Bulldogs won the 4x800 in 10:29.83.
Doddridge won the boys’ 4x200 relay in 1:34.62. They also won the 4x400 in 3:36.66. The Bulldogs pulled the sweep, winning the boys’ 4x800 in 8:29.38.
The Doddridge girls won the 4x102.5 shuttle hurdles. in 1:13.31.
A’Kaia Williams took first in shot put with a distance of 35-03. Braden Murphy won the discus with a distance of 156-09.
Landis finished his day with a 14-00 clearance in the pole vault to win that event as well. Jacob Dehaven’s 20-07.75 long jump took first as Landis followed with a 20-02.
HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL
SOUTH HARRISON 10, Braxton County 5: South Harrison continued its hot streak with a win over Braxton County Tuesday evening.
The Hawks knocked 13 hits for seven RBIs as Zane Harlow tripled in a 2 for 4 performance.
Andru Shattuck pitched five innings for the win, striking out two and allowing five runs before Seth Gain came in for a save, shutting out Braxton for two innings and striking out four. None of the Eagles recorded a hit on Gain.
Brogan Medina was 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs. Gabe Ferrell scored two runs in five at-bats. Seth Gain was 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs. Luke Hefner went 3 for 4 with three runs and an RBI.
Braxton County had eight errors in the field and finished with five runs on eight hits. The Eagles left eight on base.
South Harrison will travel to Clay County on Wednesday in efforts to continue a strong stretch. The Hawks have won 13 of their last 15 games, including a pair of wins against Pendleton County over the weekend where Dane Tate and Layton Wagemen pitched 10 strikeouts each in their starts.
The Hawks improve to 17-7 with the win.
LINCOLN 4, East Fairmont 3: Lincoln won on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat a strong East Fairmont team Tuesday evening.
Noah Sears was 2 for 4 with a run, as was Colton Edwards. Brycen Moore was 2 for 2 with an RBI and a run. Nick Tate joined the two-hit grouping with a 2 for 4 day.
Moore, Sears and Will Wolfe each had doubles. Shaw’s sacrifice fly won the game, giving him an RBI.
Lincoln led 3-2 after three innings before East Fairmont tied it in the fifth. No runs scored again until the late sacrifice.
East Fairmont’s Daniel Raddish was 2 for 4 with a run and two RBIs. He had a home run and a double.
Lincoln’s Christopher Mazzei earned the win, throwing four innings and not allowing an earned run.
NORTH MARION 6, Liberty 3: The third inning was the difference between the Huskies and the Mountaineers Tuesday. Liberty scored two, and North Marion scored four in the frame.
Ultimately, Liberty would only score once more in the game while North Marion carried steady production to get the win.
Landon Clevenger had three hits in four at-bats for Liberty, including a double.
Colin Hess, Jackson Waskis and Lucas Runner each doubled for the Huskies, who are now 6-8. Liberty is 3-16.
HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL
SOUTH HARRISON 13, Braxton County 7: The Hawks scored eight runs in the fifth before upending Braxton in the seventh inning to win Tuesday night.
After trailing 6-0, the Hawks rallied for a 13-1 trend in the latter half of the game.
Abbi Cowger had four hits, an RBI and two runs for South Harrison. While the Hawks did not have an extra-base hit, the team plated their runs with 12 RBIs on 13 hits.
The team had a total average of .361, going 36 for 46 as all but three batters recorded a hit.
Ayva Thomas, Alissa Talbott and Hope Woods each had two hits.
Talboutt and Ava Louk joined Alexis Shaw with 2 RBIs apiece.
Lacie Wright had two doubled in three at-bats for Braxton County. She had two RBIs.
Shaw began the game in the circle before Louk entered and held Braxton County without an earned run in three innings of work. She struck out three batters to secure the win.
The Hawks are now 11-12.
LIBERTY 13, East Fairmont 5: A slow start for Liberty turned into a flow of scoring in the fifth and six innings.
The Mountaineers scored 11 unanswered runs beginning in the fifth inning to down the Bees Tuesday night.
Kambre Crock tripled for Liberty. She finished 2 for 3 with two runs and an RBI.
Abby Davis was a perfect 3 for 3 with two runs and two RBIs to lead the Mountaineers. Briar Travelstead and Kaylee White had two hits apiece.
Crock struck out four in 2.1 innings of work for the win, not allowing a hit or run and only walking one batter.
East Fairmont was held to six hits in the loss. Lillian Boylen and Marisa Delbrook each had two hits.
East Fairmont is now 2-17 while Liberty picked up its first win of the season. The Mountaineers are now 1-12 and take on Lincoln Wednesday.
NORTH MARION 10, Lincoln 2: North Marion scored in all but two innings in a 7-inning win over Lincoln Tuesday evening.
Lincoln scored once in the first inning and once in the sixth as the North Marion defense finished without and error and only let up five hits.
One of Lincoln’s runs came from a Makiah Ford home run. She finished 2 for 3 with both of Lincoln’s runs and an RBI. Riley Pearlman doubled. Wright had an RBI for Ford’s second run.
North Marion’s Reagan Ash was 3 for 5 with two runs and an RBI. She had two doubles. Haley Smith had two doubles as well, bringing home three RBIs. Maci Singleton tripled.
North Marion is now 13-11. Lincoln falls to 6-10 and travels to Liberty Wednesday.
