CLARKSBURG — The names of two Adamston Elementary School students killed in a crash Saturday night are being withheld pending notification of all relatives, Clarksburg Police Chief Marshall Goff said.
A 43-year-old man was driving a tanker truck filled with brine water eastbound down the off ramp of U.S. 50 at the West Pike Street exit about 9:30 p.m.
A passenger car being driven by a 49-year-old Clarksburg woman was traveling south on U.S. 50 near the underpass when the truck collided with the vehicle and flipped onto the sedan, killing the 7- and 8-year-old boys, Clarksburg Police Chief Marshall Goff said.
The truck driver told police his brakes failed, Goff said.
Both drivers were taken to United Hospital Center with non life-threatening injuries, Goff said. Their conditions were not available Sunday.
Harrison County Schools Superintendent Susan Collins said there will be counselors in the schools to help the students cope with the loss of the first and second grader.
“It doesn’t matter the ages. It’s always so troubling for the children in the classroom as well as the staff as well. Life is fragile,” Collins said. “Anytime we have a catastrophic incident such as this, we arrange for several counselors to go to the one school affected and have additional counselors at other schools.”
