CLARKSBURG — Harrison County has lost one of its key champions of education, a man who served decades on the school board and deeply cared about each and every child in the community.
James L. Reaser, who served on the county’s Board of Education from 1968 to 1992 and 2001 to 2010, passed away Wednesday at the age of 76.
Family members and those who worked closely with Reaser over the decades will remember the Lake Floyd resident as a compassionate individual who did whatever it took to improve the school system.
“He always wanted to see good things happen for our students,” Harrison County Superintendent of Schools Susan Collins said. “He was from the Salem area, but he certainly did things to benefit our entire county.”
Reaser’s daughter, Amy Bunch, said her father constantly would talk about what it meant to him to get the opportunity to serve on the Board of Education.
“He loved the children of Harrison County ... he was dedicated to the kids and wanted to see them be able to get the best schooling that they were able to get,” Bunch said.
