CLARKSBURG — Clarksburg Police are continuing to work with other state and county agencies regarding the investigation of a crash Saturday night that killed two boys, ages 7 and 8, after a tanker truck rolled on top of their vehicle.
It is believed that both the driver of the passenger car and mother of the boys, Lucretia Mazzei, 49, of Clarksburg, and the tanker operator, Stephen Kuhn, 43, of Belpre, Ohio, have been released from the hospital, Clarksburg Police Chief Marshall Goff said.
Kuhn was driving for T&S Trucking, Mineral Wells.
The boys were brothers who attended first and second grade, respectively, at Adamston Elementary School, officials have said.
The wreck occurred when the tanker exited U.S. 50 at West Pike Street and collided with Mazzei’s vehicle that was traveling southbound on U.S. 19 toward the Adamston area. Kuhn told police his brakes failed, police have said.
The tanker, which was filled with brine water, flipped over on the sedan, Goff said. The liquid had to be transferred to another truck before it could be placed back on its wheels, police said.
Sgt. Mike Walsh and Sgt. Danny Messenger, accident reconstructionists, are working on their drawings and calculations of the crash site, which are not complete, Goff said.
“The medical examiner has not given us positive identifications on the children, and Detective Walsh has not been able to discuss with the PSC officer his findings,” Goff said.
